In phase 2 it was printing backfill-era crawl rates (1h=1.3 repos/s) and a batch-trough note, both meaningless once bootstrap is over. A reader coming to this cold would have read it as a dead process. Now it reports merge counters, the compaction watermark, the pending-pass remainder, and the listSegments gate instead.
