store.ts carried three literal NUL bytes in versionKey's template literal, which made git classify the file as binary. Any patch series touching it then either drops its contents or fails to apply, so a tangled pull request round reports a conflict against a branch that is a strict fast-forward. Written as \u0000 the produced string is byte-identical and the file is text again.
