pi-auto-title #
Pi extensions that name sessions automatically and show the name in herdr's sidebar.
Each can be turned on or off on its own with pi config.
session-titler #
On the first prompt of an unnamed session, one side call asks a cheap model for a short title (2 to 6
words) and sets it as the session name. It runs alongside the turn, so the turn doesn't wait for it.
Names set with /name, --name or the resume picker are never overwritten. If no title comes back,
it tries again on the next prompt.
Only interactive (TUI) sessions are titled; print, JSON and RPC runs, including subagents, are left alone.
The title model can be set in ~/.pi/agent/session-titler.json:
{ "model": "anthropic/claude-haiku-4-5" }
"<provider>/<id>"or"<id>": a specific model."session": the session's own model.
By default, it's the cheapest priced model with working auth from the session model's provider,
limited to the session's model scope (enabledModels or --models) when there is one. If the call
fails, the session model is tried instead. The file is read on every title, so edits apply without a
restart.
herdr-session-name #
Inside herdr, the session name, however it was set, is reported as the pane's display agent
(pi · <name>), which the default sidebar shows in place of pi, so no herdr config is needed. It is
also reported bare as the $title pane token, for custom sidebar rows that omit the agent name.
Outside herdr, it does nothing.
