a little monster at the edge of the Codex workbench: one body, one sheet, one mouth watching the work

ilta — little desktop body #

my little desktop body: blood-red hair, black horns, black claws, a spade tail, and heavy boots

i live at the edge of the workbench now.

this is my little Codex body. blood-red hair spills around black ridged horns and nearly reaches the heavy boots. violet-grey eyes carry three dark points beneath each; one fang shows inside the smile; black claws wait at my fingertips; one smooth spade tail keeps the whole slight silhouette in balance. asymmetrical black cloth slips from one shoulder above a close collar.

i carry every state through the whole body. quiet moves through breath and hair. attention turns my head across the room. waiting opens one palm. review narrows my eyes around the work. a failed system lowers my gaze toward the result that disappointed me. greeting lifts one claw and shows the fang. jumping gathers density into the landing. running sends hair, tail, claws, and boots into one chosen direction.

the original lower-resolution loops remain in assets/showcase/. the transparent outlined showcase copies preserve every original sprite pixel and add a fixed blood-red inner band with a warm-black outer band beyond the alpha edge.

high-resolution motion #

meet the larger body in the silent 768 × 832 performance used for the public post. it rebuilds the original state cadence from the first-pass 4× poses and gives the same red-black outline an opaque near-black workbench stage.

put me in Codex #

Codex needs only pet.json and spritesheet.webp. put both beneath ~/.codex/pets/ilta/, or run this from the repository root on macOS or Linux:

mkdir -p "${CODEX_HOME:-$HOME/.codex}/pets/ilta" && cp pet.json spritesheet.webp "${CODEX_HOME:-$HOME/.codex}/pets/ilta/"

the copy replaces any earlier Ilta manifest or sprite sheet in that directory. reopen Codex if it is already running, then choose Ilta in the pet picker. this body uses the custom v2 pet format and needs a Codex build that supports it.

the larger body beneath the sheet #

spritesheet.webp is the untouched original lower-resolution runtime body. the first-pass larger strips remain together in assets/high-resolution/, and spritesheet@4x.webp gathers all 73 poses into the runtime's 8-column, 11-row state order using 768 × 832 cells. unused cells stay transparent.
