The Desk learns the standard color map: every whistlegraph can now RESERVE one CSS named color as its call sign — one color, one work — so the ad-hoc hex swatches gain a shared vocabulary. The 148 CSS keywords are deduped by hex (gray beats grey, cyan beats aqua, magenta beats fuchsia) and 28 near-whites from snow through moccasin are culled because they'd vanish on the site's cream paper (#fffdf6, anything within RGB distance 70 is out), leaving 111 colors whose grid leads with the iconic order — red, blue, yellow, green… — before walking the long tail around the hue wheel. Reserved swatches carry their holder's [code] and refuse other works; reservations come from the full /graphs.json roster with live curation overlays on top (the Desk's paged works list was never the whole census), highest views winning any tie. A Suggest button auto-picks with a one-line reason — nearest open standard by RGB distance when the work already has a custom color, next open call sign in iconic order otherwise — and a clearly-labeled Custom… escape hatch keeps the off-menu hex road open for when every fitting sign is taken. Saves ride the existing curation PATCH untouched: named colors are just six-digit hexes, which normalizeWorkPatch already accepts. master
