+
+Raindella was a terrible witch. Not terrible as in evil; terrible as in incompetent. And yet her terrible witchyness was her most striking feature. She passed as magical enough to frighten her adopted parents into sending her away. But not so magical that they sent her to live on her own, where she might take residence in an old swamp and wither away or something. No, they were too good for that.

+Instead, they shipped her--and a hefty donation--off to Grendwyl's School for the Arcanely Gifted, a place where she would "surely grow into her own" and "become whole with her gifts". A place where, under the careful discipline of Elders, she might hope to be reassimilated into the world, and return someday a more palatable, uptight daughter, one who neatly fits into off-kilter family photos on a dustless fireplace mantle.

+Raindella lasted 6 months before she struck a deal with the Head Elder. In exchange for "never sullying the good name of magic with her breathy attempts at spellwomanship again" she was free to leave. She even received half of her tuition back, which Raindella was thankful for as that allowed her to put many miles between her and Grendwyl's, hopefully enough that no one would ever have the misfortunate task of finding her.
