title: Cyberpsychosis summary: My thoughts on LLMs and AI publishedAt: 1790474554676 hidden: true #
I'm pushed to use and interact with modern technology through both my hobbies and my career. This website is mostly[1] AI free, but the purpose of this site is for me to express my creativity and desires through code, an LLM or model will never satisfy those innate desires.
At the same time I find both Tech Bro[2] AI Boosters and Anti-AI Posers insanely annoying. The world is not black and white, doing a funny dunk is not a real discussion, and you're not going to create a tech god that you can enslave... Online discourse is honestly exhausting and everyone is talking past each-other trying to dunk on one another and pull as much interaction as possible. Even if they're "just asking questions" or "don't want to ruin the fun".
The ideal is an identity distinct from big tech/uncomplicated boosterism, one that heavily leverages tech for concrete daily gains and not just future-utopian goals, something that people can associate with their friend who has a really good plex server, not with big tech "fix everything" efforts

I feel like when I was using LLMs a year+ ago at work I was getting just as much done, at the same quality, with less crunch. But now that the bean counters have realised, the expectations is you’ll do more with the same crunch. More work stuffed into the same time & quality is defs suffering 💀

less "claude is a person by my standards" and more "i'm not a person by those standards."i think my position boils down to this, actually: i think there's more distance between Normal Cognition <-> some flavors of neurodivergence than there is between ND <-> LLM cognition.

- "Big Tech" and boosters have soiled interesting and useful technology.
- It shouldn't ever replace your individual skills and hobbies.
- It's not alive, but it's still human shaped. How you treat it says a lot about you as an individual.
- Discussing "consciousness" is reductive and a dead end.
- Textual systems, next-word-prediction, and best-effort word choice describes how my brain operates as a neurodivergent individual.
- Natural gas turbines and dirty energy powered datacenters are a net negative for the world, and building rushed shitty centers near residential is dumb as fuck.
- I live near a datacenter (Equinix SY4) that aims for > 80% renewable power, and it's no louder or annoying than any other piece of infrastructure near me.
- You cannot ban mathematics or numbers, the underlying methodology and technology cannot be undone.
- Copyright is an outdated system and should be abolished, but at the same time artists and creatives deserve to be paid for their work - Both can be true.
- Transhumanism or whatever I don't know - there's something here
