Introduction #
I've been playing around with Claude Code, as it seems are 90% of developers. I use Ansible to manage my homelab setup. There are some huge advantages to Ansible, like its simplicity and agentless design.
However, there are some drawbacks. It tends to be kinda slow, due to its use of Python. In addition, I want to make some enhancements to it. I decided to create an Ansible-compatible tool in .NET. I'm intimately familiar with that ecosystem.
I also wanted to try what I call "vibe-ish" coding, where I set Claude on a task, but I review the task before committing or at least before merging.
Note: I'll keep updating this blog post as I progress.
Hosting #
Currently, the project is hosted at GitLab. It's called Conductor. I was going to host it at GitHub, but I'm not a fan of the direction they've been going lately, and Codeberg has basically banned AI-assisted projects. I'm ok with that, that's they're decision.
The first goal is to make it ansible compatible - for most use cases. At least, for my use cases. The next step is to add additional vault file formats. I might introduce an agent on the remote side if necessary, but it's not showing to be necessary at this point.
Background #
I use Claude quite a bit in my daily work as an Engineering Manager, but I don't use it much for writing actual code, as I don't write much actual code. I have a feeling that could change in the future as Claude can be used to implement a work item from start to finish.
I currently use Claude for things like building executive dashboards and summaries.
