Corporate Graphics — platter #
A reference library of historic bank, corporate, seal, and privacy/identity marks, collected to inform the REGARDE logo work (the consent gate — "nothing about you, without you."). The brief is trust, and this is the lineage a trust/consent mark should sit inside: notary seals, institutional monograms, and the modernist abstract marks that made organizations feel solid.
66 marks fetched from Wikimedia Commons, organized into four sections with per-mark provenance (designer, year, motif, aesthetic register, why-it-matters). The whole point is aesthetic range — to break out of a single flat-vector default and find genuinely different ways in.
Sections #
| Section | Marks | What it teaches | Sheet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Banks & Finance | 16 | how money signals trust — heraldic animals, swiss slashes, vault geometry | banks-finance/_sheet-banks-finance.png |
| Modernist Designer Canon | 19 | abstract geometry = institutional solidity (Rand, Chermayeff & Geismar, Bass, Vignelli) | modernist-canon/_sheet-modernist-canon.png |
| Seals · Monograms · Notary | 15 | the verification grammar closest to a consent receipt — engraved seals, certification roundels, authority monograms | seals-monograms/_sheet-seals-monograms.png |
| Surveillance · Security · Consent | 16 | the category REGARDE actually competes in — and its clichés to avoid | surveillance-consent/_sheet-surveillance-consent.png |
How this informs REGARDE #
Four distinct registers to pull the logo toward, instead of the flat-green-on-cream default:
- Engraved seal / intaglio — the Great Seal's all-seeing eye, Treasury's scales (1789), the Penny Black. A consent receipt is literally a seal; the anti-surveillance pitch can reclaim the all-seeing-eye as a returned gaze.
- Swiss constructivist — Stankowski's Deutsche Bank slash, NatWest's cubes: one geometric idea, growth held in a stable frame.
- Heraldic-flattened — Lloyds' horse, Barclays' eagle, UBS's keys: a guardian emblem modernized to flat. A gate-keeper animal is on-brief.
- Negative-space / figure-ground — FedEx's arrow, PBS's faces: the meaning hidden in the counter. REGARDE's "you held inside the gate" wants exactly this.
The surveillance-consent section maps the clichés to diverge from: padlocks, blue shields, green checks, fingerprints. REGARDE's opening is to look unlike a security vendor — warmer, more civic, a seal not a shield.
