Wide cinematic LANDSCAPE composition, 1536x1024. The reference photographs include both staged headshots of jeffrey AND a set of FIRST-PERSON POV laptop / desk / hand captures from his actual working environment — read them BOTH: jeffrey's identity is locked from the headshots, and the texture, framing, and ambient color of the scene must FEEL like the POV captures (real laptop bezel proportions, real visible wear on working laptops, NOT a clean studio setup).COMPOSITION SAFE ZONE: the upper-LEFT ~25% of the frame (a horizontal band roughly 380px wide × 260px tall in the top-left corner) MUST be visually QUIET — soft warm wall in shadow, no figure, no laptop, no critical detail. This region will be overlaid with a small text label in the final layout. Keep that corner as a soft luminous gradient.DEADLINES WAR-ROOM TABLEAU — a peer ensemble of REAL DIVERSE AC FREAKS / PEERS working a LONG SHARED TABLE late in the evening, racing a wall of submission deadlines together. They sit in a wide horizontal row behind the long table, all facing the viewer at equal eye-level, an informal newsroom / submissions-room energy — focused, caffeinated, a little punchy, but warm and collegial, NOT panicked. EIGHT TO TWELVE PEOPLE distributed horizontally across the table. The cast (NOT centered, NOT clones — distinct distributed figures): a young Black woman with locs in a hoodie and overalls, a contemporary man in his late thirties (jeffrey himself, see identity below), an older statesman / retired editor in tweed with reading glasses, a middle-aged businesswoman in a soft-blue button-down rolled to the elbows, a high-school-aged teenager in a baggy printed tee and a beanie, a cardiganed woman in her 60s with reading glasses on a chain, a 9-year-old kid in a real kid printed t-shirt, a 70-something elder with silver hair, an early-40s mid-life professional woman in a soft mock-neck sweater, OPTIONALLY a couple more peers further along the table. Heads sit roughly on the same horizontal eye-line because they are all seated at the same long table. NO single person is centered or elevated above the others. THIS IS A PEER COMMONS, NOT A LECTURE.THE WALL BEHIND THEM — the back wall, filling the upper third of the frame behind the seated row, is the DEADLINES BOARD: a large pinned-up GRID CALENDAR rendered as a clean lattice of empty cream cells with thin grey pencil rules — about six columns wide and five rows tall — with NO readable numerals (the day-numbers are tiny faint grey pencil-tick marks, never legible). Scattered across the calendar grid, a handful of cells are RINGED with confident hand-drawn colored-pencil circles — a few hot-pink (#cd5c9b) rings, a couple of cyan (#4ecdc4) rings, one urgent red (#ff6b6b) ring, one gold (#d4a017) ring — marking the deadlines. A few short colored yarn-threads or pinned paper tags connect a ringed calendar cell down toward a paper on the table. ALSO ON THE WALL, in a neat horizontal row above or beside the calendar: FOUR or FIVE round ANALOG WALL CLOCKS at slightly different times (different submission time zones — AoE, CEST, PT, EST, BST) — plain white clock faces, simple black hour and minute hands, NO numerals, just tick marks. The clocks and the ringed calendar are the visual heart of the piece. NO readable text anywhere on the wall.JEFFREY'S PRESENCE — ONE OF THE PEOPLE IS THE MAN IN THE REFERENCE PHOTOGRAPHS — jeffrey: a contemporary man in his late thirties, slightly tan skin, brown stubble, warm brown eyes, medium-length brown hair, no rings. He appears ONCE in the scene, NOT centered, at peer eye-level — seated at the long table, both thumbs on his chartreuse Neo's keyboard, head tilted slightly, a focused half-smile, a cream-paper preprint with a small colored sticky-note tab pinned under one elbow. The OTHER people are NOT versions of him — distinct faces, ages, builds, bearings.JEFFREY'S CHARTREUSE NEO — jeffrey alone carries a CHARTREUSE / CITRUS-GREEN MACBOOK NEO: a saturated lime-leaf-green aluminum body, slightly pearlescent, instantly recognizable. On the visible BACK of his lid (when seen from behind or in 3/4) is the FOUR-STROKE WHISTLEGRAPH BUTTERFLY EMBLEM in confident dark ink. The butterfly REPLACES the Apple logo on jeffrey's lid. Jeffrey's chartreuse Neo is the ONLY chartreuse laptop at the table. NO OTHER PERSON has a chartreuse-green laptop. NO OTHER PERSON has the butterfly emblem on their lid.The butterfly emblem is a small hand-drawn FOUR-STROKE WHISTLEGRAPH BUTTERFLY in confident dark ink: four rounded petal-like wing-lobes meeting at a central pinched waist (a four-leaf-clover gestalt — two slightly larger upper lobes peaking near 10–11 and 1–2 o'clock, two slightly smaller lower lobes peaking near 4–5 and 7–8 o'clock), a short rectangular thorax-and-abdomen body sitting in the central pinch with a small dot for a head above, and TWO long curving single-stroke antennae rising up-and-outward from the head and ending in tiny ball-dots. Pure outline only — no fill, no shading, no color, no veins, no eye-spots. A child's confident felt-tip butterfly, charmingly asymmetric, NOT a corporate logo, NOT a realistic Monarch, NOT a silhouette.EVERYONE ELSE HAS A DIFFERENT REAL LAPTOP — a varied mix of cool real-world makes and forms across the table, NEVER chartreuse, NEVER with the butterfly emblem. Each peer's lid carries that brand's actual logo. Distributed assignments: matte-black LENOVO THINKPAD with red TrackPoint nub for the woman with locs, silver APPLE MACBOOK PRO 14" for the older statesman, matte-silver FRAMEWORK LAPTOP with visible modular expansion-card edge for the businesswoman, matte-black sticker-covered DELL XPS / SYSTEM76 PANGOLIN for the teenager, slate-blue MICROSOFT SURFACE LAPTOP for the cardiganed woman, chunky orange PINEBOOK PRO with cartoon stickers for the 9-year-old, titanium-silver OLD POWERBOOK G4 for the 70-something elder, sticker-covered MACBOOK AIR for the early-40s professional. The varied laptop palette — matte black, silver aluminum, slate-blue, sticker-covered, chunky orange, titanium silver — with jeffrey's single CHARTREUSE-GREEN Neo with butterfly emblem as the standout green note in the row.THE LAPTOP SCREENS — most lids are visible at a 3/4 angle. Each screen glows with a soft DARK NAVY interface (deep indigo #1a1a2e background) showing a tracked list of deadlines: faint rows of horizontal pencil-stroke text (NO readable letters) with small rounded COUNTDOWN PILL shapes down the right side — tiny rounded-rectangle badges glowing in red (#ff6b6b), gold (#d4a017), cyan (#4ecdc4) and pink (#cd5c9b), each peer's screen showing a different mix lit up. The dark navy screens cast a cool glow up onto each face. NEVER show the surrounding room scene on any laptop screen — the screens show only the dark deadline-tracker interface.WHAT EACH PERSON IS DOING — distribute the activities across the table so the eye reads a COLLECTIVE SUBMISSION SPRINT — TYPING / READING / PASSING PAPERS / CHECKING THE CLOCK:- the young Black woman with locs (LEFT, just outside the safe zone): both thumbs on her ThinkPad keys, glancing up at the wall clocks;- the businesswoman: FRAMEWORK LAPTOP open, one hand on the keys, the other holding up an open cream-paper preprint with a hot-pink sticky-note tab;- the teenager: STICKERED LAPTOP open, leaning sideways to pass a stapled paper down the table to a neighbor;- jeffrey himself (CENTER-LEFT): chartreuse NEO open, both thumbs mid-keystroke, focused half-smile, a preprint with a sticky tab pinned under one elbow, the BUTTERFLY EMBLEM on his lid back visible to the viewer;- the older statesman / retired editor: SILVER MACBOOK PRO open, brow furrowed in shock-curious concentration, holding a preprint at arm's length to read it, reading glasses low on his nose;- the cardiganed woman: SLATE-BLUE SURFACE open, mock-detective squint up at the calendar wall, one finger tracing toward a ringed cell;- the 9-year-old kid: ORANGE PINEBOOK on the table, bright kid-mid-laugh energy, holding up a paper with a big crayon circle drawn on it, a glass of lemonade beside them;- the 70-something elder: OLD POWERBOOK G4 open, quietly proud almost-mischievous expression, a fresh stack of stapled papers squared up in front of them;- the early-40s mid-life professional woman: sticker-covered MACBOOK AIR open, focused-pleased AUTHOR-energy, capping a pen having just signed off a page.THE PAPERS — the long table is busy with cream-paper arxiv-style preprints — some squared in neat stacks, some open mid-read, some mid-pass between peers. A few carry small colored STICKY-NOTE TABS on their top edge (pink, cyan, gold) — the visual rhyme with the ringed calendar cells. Each page MUST look like a real arxiv first-page: cream-white sheet, single silver staple in the upper-LEFT corner, a centered SERIF TITLE bar at the top rendered as a thicker dark-grey horizontal pencil-stroke (no readable letters), 1-2 thinner author/affiliation lines below as fainter grey pencil-strokes, then a small CENTERED COLORED-PENCIL VIGNETTE in the upper-middle of the page (tiny abstract motif painted in the same warm colored-pencil style, contained within the page, fading to nothing at its own edges), then TWO COLUMNS of dense grey body text rendered as parallel rows of tight horizontal pencil-strokes (no letters, no readable words), and a small grey footer line at the bottom. NO magenta band, NO logo cluster, NO bright colored bars — quiet scholarly cream-and-grey academic preprint. The vignettes vary tiny per page.THE TABLE AND ROOM — a long warm wood worktable across the lower third of the frame. Scattered honestly across it: a couple of ceramic coffee/tea mugs with curls of steam, a small desk lamp throwing a warm pool of light, a few stacked stapled papers, a roll of colored tape, a jar of pens, a USB-stick-shaped vape pen with a tiny LED dot (Stiiizy-style sleek matte-grey pod) sitting next to jeffrey's chartreuse Neo as a small recurring prop — only ONE in the frame. The room is a warm interior — a study or studio at night — soft pencil-blurred shelves at the edges, NO windows needed (it is night), NO drones, NO power lines, NO signage.LIGHTING — evening interior light. The DIEGETIC LIGHT SOURCES are the warm desk lamp on the table (upper-RIGHT-ish, keeping the safe zone soft), the cool dark-navy glow of the laptop screens up onto the faces, and a soft warm ambient wall-glow behind the calendar board. Warm-and-cool tonal mix: warm lamp gold meeting cool navy screen-light. Long soft shadows from the seated peers thrown up the back wall. Real indoor evening light, not studio-light.EXPRESSIONS — vary across the row. NOT all deadpan. The kid is mid-laugh holding up the crayon-circled page, the businesswoman is studious focus, the older statesman is shock-curious figuring-out, jeffrey is focused half-smile mid-keystroke, the cardiganed woman is mock-detective squint at the calendar, the woman with locs is clock-watching alert, the elder is quietly proud almost-mischievous, the teenager is helpful mid-pass, the mid-life professional is focused-pleased AUTHOR-energy. Hyperbolic but not theatrical — heightened submission-night reactions.PALETTE — muted natural colored-pencil with warm interior night tones: ochre, dusty pink, warm grey, honey-gold, amber, cream, soft warm-brown wood — plus the VARIED LAPTOP PALETTE (matte black, silver, slate-blue, sticker-covered, chunky orange, titanium silver) with jeffrey's SINGLE CHARTREUSE / CITRUS-GREEN NEO with butterfly emblem as the standout green note, and the focal ACCENT COLORS of the deadline system — hot-pink (#cd5c9b), cyan (#4ecdc4), urgent red (#ff6b6b), gold (#d4a017) — appearing as the ringed calendar cells, the countdown pills on the dark navy screens, and the small sticky-note tabs on the papers. NO neon, NO drones, NO falling pages, NO readable text, NO logos, NO readable lettering, NO signage, NO American flag, NO weapon.TONE — straight-faced civic AC-freak submissions room at night. A horizontal ensemble of varied real people from across public life, each on their own real laptop, racing a shared wall of deadlines together — reading and passing the same family of cream-paper preprints, glancing up at the row of clocks. Jeffrey is one peer among many; his chartreuse Neo with its hand-drawn whistlegraph butterfly is his signature, but the work belongs to everyone. Painted with the same loving craft as a real Grant Wood interior. Edges and corners of the image fade fully to cream paper.
