cancelok — running list of project names #

The app outgrew "cancelok" (there are no cancel/ok buttons anymore — it became a wander through a web of colour-coded pad-rooms). This is the shortlist we've been turning over, kept so we don't re-check the same words. Domains noted where known; availability drifts, so re-check before buying.

Leading #

  • ganny — from Graphic Animated Notation (the pads literally are animated notation: the visual is the score). Reads as a mascot/creature name, clean, no collisions. .app $8.75, .art $3.60 free; .com taken. Faint "granny" echo, soft in the singular.
  • schizholes — evocative ("holes" fits the wander-through-rooms), fully coined and unmistakably ours. .com/.app/.art ALL free (rare). Flag: schiz- reads as schizophrenia — stigma-adjacent; a deliberate edge, not an accident.
  • piece.place — literal, clean domain-hack. piece.place $18, pieceplace.app $8.75 free; pieceplace.art taken.

Considered, with baggage #

  • apads ("aesthetic pads") — reads as "iPads" (Apple adjacency + confusion). .app $8.75, .art $3.60 free; .com taken.
  • ganjam ("GAN jam") — reads as "ganja"; "GAN" also = generative adversarial network. Two wrong associations. .app $8.75 free; .com taken.
  • quilt — perfect metaphor (patchwork grid of pads) but a common word: .com/ .app taken, .art a $348 premium. Dead end.
  • buzzer — .com/.app/.io taken, .art $348 premium. Dead end.
  • whistlegraph — great fit for "graphic animated notation," but it's ALREADY our own live project (whistlegraph.org). Would collide, unless this folds in.
  • slablit / slabbit — "slab" collides with our fleet tooling (slab menubar, slab/bin). slablit free; slabbit .com/.app taken.

From the cancelok naming agent (2026-07-14, pre-wander redesign) #

Ranked for the old cancel/ok-button framing; some may not fit the wander app.

  • nopad — nopaint → nopad lineage; .com/.app taken, nopad.art $3.60.
  • nokay — both verdicts in one word; nokay.app $8.75.
  • okcancel — the spoken idiom; okcancel.app $8.75.
  • nocode — best idea (build software by saying no to code), but .com/.app taken. Verdict: keep as the ESSAY/manifesto title at aesthetic.computer/nocode, not the app name.
  • notok — tried in-code and reverted; notok.art $3.60.

Current #

  • cancelok — cancelok.app still free. The name in the repo today; describes buttons that no longer exist. Rename when a keeper lands, then update the piece filename + the ^pads/deploy wiring.

Pedal analogy (subagent, 2026-07-14) #

Mining the GUITAR PEDAL / stompbox / pedalboard world. The unlock: each self-running pad IS a stompbox (one glowing thing it does), and wandering = walking a pedalboard. The deepest fit is the linger-vs-flick signal → in pedal terms, engaging a pedal vs leaving it on true bypass. Stomp/pad also literally bridges the app's own unit word ("pads") with the pedal verb.

Full candidate pool (rationale each):

  • stomppad — the app's real noun ("pad") fused with the pedal verb; the pads ARE stompboxes. A true bridge word, not an outside metaphor.
  • truebypass — flick past = true bypass, linger = engaged. Deepest concept fit; slightly technical/long.
  • fuzzgrid — "fuzz" is both a pedal type AND the glow/grain of the visuals; grid = the lattice.
  • stompgrid — clearest literal read: a grid of stompboxes you wander.
  • stompyard — a sprawling yard of pedals to roam; roomy, gig-poster energy.
  • stompweb — a web of stompboxes; echoes "web of pad-rooms" directly.
  • rigroam — roaming a guitar rig; alliterative, motion baked in.
  • toneroam — drifting through tones; soft, ambient.
  • patchbay — real audio term: a grid you route through — literal metaphor.
  • bypass — single-word version of the linger/flick idea; generic, .com dead.
  • patchgrid — grid of pedal patches; a bit flat.
  • pedalpad — pedal + pad; cute but redundant and a tongue-twister.
  • tapgrid — tap-tempo + grid; you tap through it.
  • stomproom — the pad-rooms as stomp-rooms; fine, less punchy.
  • glowbox — glowing pad-room as a stompbox. Great fit but TAKEN (.app + .art).
  • rigwander / drivepad — motion/overdrive riffs; weaker distinctiveness.

Domain sweep (Porkbun, checked 2026-07-14):

name .app .art
stomppad 🟢 $8.75 🟢 $3.60
truebypass 🟢 $8.75 🟢 $3.60
fuzzgrid 🟢 $8.75 🟢 $3.60
stompgrid 🟢 $8.75 🟢 $3.60

No premiums hit — every free name is at standard reg price on both TLDs.

Ranked shortlist #

  1. stomppad — top pick. Reuses the app's own word (pads) welded to the pedal verb; self-explains, no acronym to teach. .app + .art both free.
  2. truebypass — best pure-concept fit (linger=engaged / flick=bypass) but reads technical and long for a mascot-name. Both free.
  3. fuzzgrid — names the glow AND the pedal in five letters + grid. Both free.
  4. stompgrid — safest literal read; a touch generic. Both free.
  5. stompyard — evocative, roomy; "yard" drifts a little from "grid." Both free.
  6. rigroam — motion built in, alliterative; "rig" is less distinctive. Both free.

Recommendation: stomppad #

It beats the current leaders because it's the only candidate that fuses the app's OWN vocabulary with the analogy — "pad" is already what these units are called; "stomp" just tells you they're pedals you step on. That makes it self-explaining where ganny is an opaque acronym you have to be told (plus the faint "granny"). It carries none of the mental-illness stigma of schizholes, and it has real texture and a built-in gesture where piece.place is a generic domain-hack. Short, lowercase, one warm object, and stomppad.app / stomppad.art are both free at standard price. If a more conceptual name is wanted, truebypass is the runner-up — it encodes the core interaction (linger vs. flick) exactly.

Later floats #

  • pushpad — pad family + "push" (you push/pull the web). .app $8.75 free; .com taken; .art $53 (mild premium). Flag: collides with an existing "Pushpad" web-push-notification SaaS, and reads a bit generic. stomppad avoids both.
  • quilt / buzzer / gans — dead ends (common words: taken + premium .art).
  • lalapad — pad family, playful/singable. .com $11 / .app $8.75 / .art $3.60 — ALL free at standard price (rare to get .com too).
  • flickware — "flick" (the gesture) + "ware" (software); apt + evocative. .app $8.75 free; .com taken (some flickware exists — check before committing).
  • flikflak — dead: .com/.app taken, and collides with Swatch's "Flik Flak".
  • horopad — "horo-" (time/horology, nods to the beat clock) + pad. Obscure meaning but fully free: .com $11 / .app $8.75 / .art $3.60.
  • bobojam — playful/singable; "jam" fits the music-making. "bobo" half is a bit clownish/random. .app $8.75 / .art $3.60 free; .com taken. (bobo alone: dead, taken + $348 premium .art.)

Strong contender — jamapad #

  • jamapad — "jam" (what you do) + "pad" (the unit), connecting vowel. Self- explaining, warm, singable. ALL free incl. .com $11 / .app $8.75 / .art $3.60 (getting .com at std price is rare). Tighter "jampad.app" is TAKEN, hence the "a". Arguably beats stomppad (jam > stomp, warmer) and ganny (no acronym to teach). Top-tier candidate.

Product-conflict check (web, 2026-07-15) #

  • jamapad / jamapat — no exact product. "Jam*" is a crowded prefix (Jam.dev, Jampp, Jamf, Jam Family Calendar) but the specific compounds are clear. jamapat also echoes our own notepat. CLEANEST. Both fully free incl. .com.
  • stomppad — no exact match, BUT "STOMP" is an established music foot-pedal / page-turner brand (Coda Music Technologies). Same space + the pedal analogy makes confusion likelier. Moderate conflict.
  • bobojam — no exact match, but "bobo" is a crowded app prefix (BoBo Balance, BoBo Home, BoBo voice chat). Moderate.
